Is your business ready for AI?
Five questions, one per readiness dimension. Ten minutes. A scored baseline before you commit to any AI investment.
Data Readiness
How would you describe the data available for the process you want to automate or improve with AI?
Process Definition
How well-documented is the process you want to automate?
Governance Structure
If an AI system made a significant error on this task, how would you catch and correct it?
Team Capability
How confident is your team in using and reviewing AI-generated outputs for this task?
Measurement Framework
Do you have a baseline measurement for what you are trying to improve?
What each dimension tests, why it matters, and what to do with your score.
The Five-Dimension Framework
The assessment evaluates five operational dimensions that consistently predict deployment success or failure in the first 90 days: Data Readiness (is your data clean and accessible?), Process Definition (is the target task consistent and documented?), Governance Structure (who approves AI decisions and handles errors?), Team Capability (can your team review AI outputs without specialist support?), and Measurement Framework (do you have baselines and defined outcomes?).
- 85% of AI deployment failures trace back to a gap in one of these five dimensions — not the AI technology itself
- Diagnosing readiness before purchasing prevents the most expensive failure class: a well-funded deployment that produces nothing usable in production
- A single low-scoring dimension blocks an otherwise capable initiative — a team scoring 4/4 on data but 1/4 on governance will fail at the same rate as one scoring 1 across all five
- Score based on today's reality, not your aspirations — when in doubt, choose the lower score
- Complete all five dimensions in one session for the complete readiness picture
- Your lowest-scoring dimension is your deployment blocker — address it first
Your Score and What It Signals
Each dimension scores 1–4. Your profile identifies the specific dimension holding you back and sequences the readiness work needed before AI deployment begins. A score of 1–2 on any dimension signals a deployment blocker. A score of 3–4 across all five indicates readiness to proceed to tool selection and piloting.
- A dimension score of 1 means AI deployment in that area will fail regardless of how good the technology is — readiness gaps are not technology problems
- Most AI readiness frameworks average across dimensions, which hides blockers. This framework surfaces them explicitly
- The score is a snapshot, not a verdict — organisations move from 1 to 3 in a single dimension within 60–90 days with focused effort
- Treat any dimension at 1–2 as a prerequisite to fix before committing AI budget
- Share your scored profile with leadership — the specific dimension gaps make the business case for readiness investment
- Re-take the assessment every 90 days to track improvement
From Score to Action
The assessment produces a single prioritised next step — one specific action to address your most critical readiness gap. This converts a diagnosis into momentum. The gap between knowing your readiness score and knowing what to do about it is where most self-assessment value is lost.
- Acting on the single recommended next step within 2 weeks — not all five dimensions at once — is what separates organisations that improve readiness from those that collect diagnostics
- Sequence matters: fixing data readiness before governance structure is almost always the right order; fixing governance before process definition is not
- The self-assessment is the starting point. For a full benchmarked diagnostic with a 12-week roadmap, the AI Agent Readiness Audit Workshop runs this framework in a structured half-day session
- Act on the recommended next step within 14 days — momentum matters more than perfection
- For a team or organisation, run the assessment independently with 3–4 people and compare scores — the variance reveals where your team's AI knowledge is inconsistent
- Book the AI Agent Readiness Audit Workshop for a facilitated full-day diagnostic with benchmarks against comparable SMEs
